How to take any material and create a Lesson Plan

First you need to know your audience.  Do they know the terms you will be using or do you need to start with defining the words.  Honestly even if you are working with adults, it is a GOOD idea to at least have a primer to reference that has some of the terms in it.  For example while you may know the term solstice others may not have any idea.  You may know the term extract and others may think of it in a very different way.

Now does that mean you make every lesson plan include a word lesson? Nope you don't have to do that at all, however having at least a sheet to refer to really can help.  Other things that work are crosswords, word finds, discussion points and even spelling and memorization.  Again know the crowd and the need.

Next know your goal in what you are teaching.  Explained another way let us say you are a parent, and your 4 year old asks "where do babies come from?"  what is your goal in the explanation? Is your goal to discuss ovaries, uterus etc.  Probably not.

But what if your 11 year old asks you the same question? Hopefully your goal is going to be different in what you are teaching and will include more detail than when you talked to a 4 year old.

So what is the goal?  It can be as simple as a quick talk about "lighting a candle for wishing someone health" and then coloring a picture of a candle, because the student is not old enough for a real candle. Or you could teach why  you would choose a blue candle instead of a pink one and actually lighting candles together for grandma while she waits for her test results.

Or you can add the steps of making candles, and making some blue, some pink, some yellow and discussing what situations you would use each color in.

One of the best things you can ALWAYS do is keep it simple, and then add simple layers on.

Let's use the Moon Signs as an example, most everyone knows their sun sign.  Even kids can say I am a Pisces or I am a Scorpio.  But many people do not know about the moon signs, so it is a wonderful next step.  The terminology is the same, but the moon moves through the signs much quicker.  This also gives you a set period of time to work with in.  When you know there are a dozen signs and the moon is in each for roughly 2 days - you can plan a month of lessons.

Lessons are like life, they are in every single thing you do all day long, and they are layers upon layers.
